Designed to accommodate the widest range of bikes - whether you operate in snowy and icy climates, in a beach community, rainy city, or a mountain town. Apex supports fat tire E-bikes, narrow road bicycles and everything in between.

Fat tire bicycle trays and support arms are compatible with all new and existing Apex transit bicycle rack frames, for any or all bicycle positions. They can be added or removed from a rack in minutes.

The fat tire option consists of a wider bicycle tray and wider support arm. The fat tire option is compatible with 24”-29” diameter wheels and all tire widths up to 5.5", including narrow road bicycle tires. For smaller wheel diameters, such as 16" and 20", the standard Apex trays are required.

Apex Standard/Fat Combination Racks

Any Apex rack can be ordered as a standard/fat tire combination rack or retrofitted to become a combination rack. We encourage transit agencies to select standard vs. fat tire bicycle positions based on the anticipated mix of bicycle types in their service area. In areas where the bicycle racks are commonly used with bicycles with wheel diameters smaller than 24", which includes many BMX bicycles, folding bicycles, and children’s bicycles, we recommended offering at least one standard position per rack. In areas where there is significant use of fat tire bicycles, the transit agency may want to choose all fat tire positions, which may be installed seasonally or year-round.

Apex 3 Fat Tire Combination Rack (this option shows the front and middle positions with fat tire wheel trays):

  • The rear position is standard to accommodate bicycles with 16"-29" diameter wheels, up to 3.2" wide tires, and up to a 48" wheelbase.

  • The middle and front positions have fat tire trays and support arms to accommodate wheel sizes from 24"-29", up to 5.5" wide tires, and up to 51" wheelbase.

Apex 2 Fat Tire Combination Rack (this option shows the front position with fat tire wheel tray):

  • The rear position is standard to accommodate bicycles with 16"-29" diameter wheels, up to 3.2" wide tires, and up to a 48" wheelbase.

  • The front position has a fat tire tray and support arm to accommodate wheel sizes from 24"-29", up to 5.5" wide tires, and up to 51" wheelbase.

The Apex 1 with fat tire tray has a fat tire tray and support arm to accommodate wheel sizes from 24"-29", up to 5.5" wide tires, and up to 51" wheelbase.
